Canesten Thrush Cream can be used to symptomatically treat Thrush in men and women. It will also help to eradicate the infection completely. It contains the antifungal active ingredient clotrimazole at 2% strength and is designed to be as quick as possible at its job.
It is suitable for treating both men and women.
It is suitable for use for patients aged between 16-60 years of age. Diabetic patients should always seek medical dvice before treating thrush as it can be the first sign of an underlying complication.
Please note:
-Thrush can be passed on during sexual intercourse. If you are treating yourself for thrush, it is advisable to treat your partner at the same time to avoid re-infection.
-Canesten cream can affect the material that barrier contraceptives (condoms) are made from and can cause them to fail. If using the cream please leave sufficient time before using a barrier contraceptive.
Treatment of candidal vulvitis. It should be used as an adjunct to treatment of candidal vaginitis. Can also be used for treatment of sexual partner's penis to prevent re-infection. Provides an effective soothing relief for the external symptoms of thrush, such as itching, burning, redness and soreness.
What is Thrush and what can cause Thrush?
Yeast and bacteria are naturally present in your vagina. Thrush occurs when the level of Candida albicans increases.
You have a weakened immune system
Pregnancy (mainly during third trimester)
When on your period
When taking certain medicines and antibiotics
If you have a medical condition like diabetes, HIV or if your under going chemotherapy
Thrush is not an STI or a serious condition and in most cases it can be treated easily and effectively. It is also normal and very common 3 in 4 women suffer from it at least once during their lifetime.
Warnings and Precautions
Do not use if:
You are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients
Speak to your GP before using if:
You are unsure whether you have thrush or this is the first time you have had these symptoms.
You have had more than two infections of thrush in the last six months.
You or your partner have ever had a sexually transmitted disease.
You are aged under 16 or over 60.
Ingredients
Active ingredient: Clotrimazole 400mg (2%w/w)
Other ingredients: Benzyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, cetyl palmitate, cetostearyl alcohol, octyldodecanol and purified water
Dosage:
16-60 years
Apply thinly TWO or THREE times daily and rub in gently.
Treatment should be continued for up to 1 week after treating the internal infection in women and for 2 weeks in men.
However, if after concomitant treatment of the vaginitis, the symptoms do not improve within seven days, the patient should consult a physician.
Under 16 and over 60 years: not recommended except on medical advice.
Possible side effects:
After you apply the cream you might experience:
Itching, rash, blisters, burning, discomfort, swelling, redness, irritation or peeling of skin.
If you experience any of the above effects, speak to your GP or pharmacist straight away. If you get any side effects, talk to your GP or pharmacist.
