Colofac IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome Tablets are a well-known antispasmodic meaning they help the bowel to relax making movement of stools more normal.
It contains the active ingredient Mebeverine Hydrochloride which is used for the management of irritable bowel syndrome. Colofac helps relieve the symptoms of IBS, which include abdominal pain and cramps, bowel spasm, diarrhoea and flatulence by relaxing the muscles in the gut. These come in a round, white, sugar coated tablet. Mebeverine works by calming muscle spasms in the gut.
Many people find that their symptoms are worst after a meal. Thus, for ideal results, you should swallow one Colofac tablet whole with water 20 minutes before each meal.
You are under the age of 18 (if you are concerned someone under 18 is suffering from IBS contact your GP for medical advise).
You are breastfeeding
You are allergic to any of the ingredients this medicine contains
You have developed new symptoms or your symptoms have become worse
You have liver or kidney problems
You are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are trying to become pregnant
Active ingredients: Mebeverine Hydrochloride.
Other ingredientss: lactose and sucrose.
Take Colofac up to THREE times per day. If your symptoms are mild, you can take Colofac less often.
Do not take more than one Colofac tablet at a time.
Do not chew the tablet, because it is coated and thus designed to break down in the gut in a controlled manner. Chewing the tablet will thus lessen the effect of Colofac. You should therefore swallow the tablet whole with water.
Colofac is suitable for adults over 18 years.
Some of the most common side effects:
indigestion or heartburn
constipation
dizziness
difficulty sleeping
loss of appetite
headache
tiredness
slow heart beat
rash and/or itchy skin
If you suffer from any of the side effects listed below stop use immediately and seek medical attention.
Some serious side effects: swelling of the face, lips or tongue, difficulty swallowing and difficulty breathing.
