What is Hedrin 4% Lotion?

 

Hedrin 4% lotion is used for the eradication of headlice infestations.

What is the active ingredient Hedrin lotion and how does it work?

 

The active ingredient in Hedrin 4% lotion is dimeticone. Dimeticone is a silicone-based substance that effectively drowns lice by coating them and preventing them from being able to move. This means that the lice will never become immune to this treatment. Unlike other headlice treatments which work by poisoning the lice to kill them. 

 

Warnings and Precautions

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding it is advised you speak to your GP or pharmacist before use.

Children under six months should only be treated under medical supervision.

Keep hair that is and has recently been treated away for naked flames and heat sources.

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients this product contains.

Active ingredients: Dimeticone 4% w/w.

Other ingredients: Cyclomethicone 5.

How do I use Hedrin 4% Lotion?

 

Dosage:

Adults and children over 6 months:

  1. Apply sufficient lotion to cover dry hair from the base to the tip to ensure that no part of the scalp is left uncovered.

  2. Work into the hair spreading the liquid evenly from roots to tips.

  3. Allow hair to dry naturally.

  4. Leave on hair for a minimum of 8 hours or overnight.

  5. Wash out with normal shampoo, rinsing thoroughly with water.

  6. Repeat treatment after seven days.

 

What are the side effects of Hedrin 4% Lotion?

 

Possible side effects:

  • Skin irritation. If the product causes a rash or excessive irritation wash it off straight away with normal shampoo and get advice from your pharmacist regarding other products to treat the head lice.

  • Flaking of the scalp.

  • Itching or irritation around the eyes
